Sunday 18th June 2023 marks Father’s Day this year! Fawlty Towers Comedy Lunch
If your Dad is a fan of the hit show Fawlty Towers, or loves comedy and great food and drink, this is an occasion not be missed out on! Wivenhoe House in Colchester is holding a special Faulty Towers Comedy Lunch on Sunday 18th June. Between 1pm-5pm, guests can expect a fun filled event, with plenty of entertainment. Enjoy a beer or glass of prosecco on arrival, a fantastic three-course set lunch to follow and, of course, Live Fawlty Towers comedy sketches. Be sure to book this week to avoid disappointment!
Steampunk Shenanigans
Got a train and railway fanatic in the family? The ‘Steampunk Shenanigans’ fair at the East Anglian Railway Museum at Chappel & Wakes Colne Station in Colchester is holding its annual event on Sunday 18th June! The Steampunk Fair, will be hosted in conjunction with the illustrious ‘League of Essextraordinary Gentlemen’. Guests can enjoy unlimited Steam Train Rides, where a full-sized steam engine will be operating, hauling the vintage Freight Train. The miniature railway will be in motion, alongside entry to the Halstead model village club rooms.
Exhibitions, guest speakers, a gadget tavern and plenty of refreshment stations will be open to guests. Don’t forget to check out the working Restoration Shed, Victorian Goods Shed, period Waiting Rooms and Signal Box, as well as the Heritage Centre and Train themed Children’s Playground if you have younger guests! The site of over 10 acres is ideal if you would like to bring your own picnic! Be sure to book a few tickets sooner rather than later, as this event tends to be extremely popular with the local area!
Brentwood Brewing Company
If you’re looking for what’s on in Essex around Father’s Day, but not on the day itself, we would highly suggest booking a brewery tour or experience day at the Brentwood Brewing Company. This Micro-Brewery based in Brentwood, is the perfect gateway into the art of brewing and serves both traditional and craft beers.
You’ll get to see first-hand the ins and outs of the brewing process, have a chance to try some of the ingredients and also sample the delicious beers at the brewery bar. If you just fancy trying some craft beers, head over to the brewery tap room, where you can enjoy draught beers served fresh from the tap.
The Brewery Shop is also open Tuesday – Saturday, selling beer, gift packs, gift vouchers, gin and rum! This trip will surely be a hit with your Dad.
The Ship Inn
If you’re looking for things to do in Burnham on Crouch, we’d highly recommend The Ship Inn for a delicious meal and a stroke of history! You’ll find The Ship Inn on Burnham’s High Street, opposite the Clock Tower. This pub has been a central feature and local favourite since the 1750s.
Fine food is served, alongside classic pub lunches, and a wide selection of drinks, including craft ales and cocktails in a rustic and relaxed setting. Produce is always fresh and also sourced locally, where possible! This pub and dining room has a reputation for seasonally inspired menus where everything is homemade.

Perhaps your Dad has got more of a sweet tooth? Whilst you’re in the area, head over to Peaberries to get your hands on a limited-edition homemade wagon wheel box! Full of 6 moreish takes on the classic cakey biscuit, you can choose from flavours including:
- Traditional Raspberry Jam, marshmallow and covered in milk chocolate
- After Eight mint chocolate with marshmallow
- White chocolate and ginger with a marshmallow centre, all complete with a card!
