Easter activities for 55 and overs in our retirement village with bungalows

With Easter weekend soon to be upon us, we thought we’d take the opportunity to highlight some of our favourite activities for 55 and overs. Retirement villages with bungalows around the country will no doubt be holding some Easter themed activities for residents to enjoy. So, whether you want to join in these festive celebrations or to create some activities to enjoy at home with family or friends, we have you covered!

The annual egg hunt

It just wouldn’t be easter without an egg hunt! Whatever your age, young or old, we can all get involved with an egg hunt. With the weather (hopefully) warming up a little, it’s prime time to get outside and set up the scavenger hunt in the garden! There’s nothing like the springtime fresh air and fun for all the family! Some of the best spots to hide your treats include flowerpots, under garden ornaments and bushes can act as great camouflage too!

If April showers are looming, you can easily switch things up and move indoors. Nestle eggs in cupboards, behind the TV and the sofa! Be sure to keep track of the ones you’ve hidden; you don’t want a melted mini egg finding its way somewhere it shouldn’t!

An Easter tree

An easter tree is great way to get into the festive spirit. You don’t need a lot to create a seasonal tree at home. If you like to get out and about, you can use nature’s finest to help you add to your creation! Gather some flowering branches, such as pussy willow, forsythia, cherry blossom, magnolia, or dogwood and use them as a base for a colourful tree.

Add faux craft eggs on coloured ribbon and tie them onto the branches. Why not hang real chocolate, handmade ornaments, paperchains and even small toy chicks or bunnies too? Perfect for if you have little ones coming around, or if you’re partial to a treat yourself! If you’ve got green fingers, why not try this on a real tree in the garden!

Planting and potting

For 55 and overs planting and potting around springtime is a wonderful hobby to enjoy. It’s good for our mental and physical health, as well as being symbolic of a refreshing change in season. What better time to get planting tulips and daffodils? If you’ve got younger family members coming over for the weekend, why not let them help bring a little colour to your garden!

For those in luxury retirement communities, your community may even have allotments, like those that will be delivered at Burnham Waters. So, you could even look to venture out and plant vegetables, fruit and herbs!

Arts and crafts

Easter crafting is great fun for everyone. The possibilities really are endless. Set up an arts and craft station for the day and get stuck in! If you fancy some eggcellent headgear, why not try creating a traditional Easter bonnet, complete with chicks and pastel colouring, or for something different, some bunny ears? You can use sequins, feathers and glitter - the more creative the better!

How about making a few festive decorations for the home too? You could create some vibrant paper chains to hang, try egg painting, home-made decorations for the easter tree, or even Easter cards to send to family and friends? An Easter craft station creates a fun and festive activity that everyone can get involved in this Easter.

Baking

Easter is the perfect excuse to indulge in some baking! If you’re no Nigella, don’t worry – cornflake cakes are always our go to! Not only do they look like little nests, perfect for the Easter occasion, but they are so easy to make and taste amazing.

Simply melt some butter, golden syrup and chocolate in a bowl, then stir in some cornflakes. Once the mixture is made, divide into small cupcake cases and decorate with mini eggs. Leave them to set in the fridge for a couple of hours and enjoy! You can also try baking simple cookies and decorate them to look like bunnies, and chicks!

Garden games

With spring, comes the daffodils and some long awaited sunshine. Perfect weather for getting outside in the garden or the local park. Why not try a good old-fashioned egg and spoon race! You guessed it, all you need are eggs and a metal or wooden spoon. Set your track and off you go. For a little less mess, try hard boiling your egg; this can come especially in handy if you’ve got little ones wanting to take part!

Easter eggstravaganza quiz

For retirement communities for 55 and overs, we suggest coming up with an Easter quiz. These aptly themed rounds could include festive trivia, for example film-based questions including Peter Rabbit and Bambi, a round on Easter traditions, all things eggs and perhaps even a ‘guess the chocolate bar’! These would certainly go down a treat and the winning teams could get their hands on some delicious Easter Eggs – we expect 10/10 this weekend!

Take a stroll

What better way to help the roast dinner go down than by taking a Sunday stroll? If the grandchildren are still full of chocolate-fuelled energy, bring them along too! Easter is a time to be with each other, so taking the opportunity to reconnect, grab some fresh air and appreciate a springtime walk in all its simplicity is great way to round off your Easter weekend.

Feedback

The team have been so patient and understanding with my elderly parents. Although we haven’t been through a purchase yet we are hoping that will come. Nathan and his team have been accommodating, kind and very knowledgable throughout our dealings with them so far. Highly recommend.

Christina Sheilds

Having been met by Nathan we followed him onto the estate and was introduced to Jamie. His truly inspirational concept for a community development have left us wanting to be part of it. Loved the bungalow and once inside we able to see for ourselves the high spec and generous size rooms. Every aspect appears to have been thought about carefully and we are looking forward to seeing the 3 bedroom show home.

Mrs Moss

The property exceeded expectations. My wife and I appreciate how generous you were with your time with us. It’s a great, well thought out and designed development for the over 55’s.

Mr & Mrs Francis

Completely blown away with the spaciousness of the layout of the estate and the beautifully presented bungalow. I can’t thank you enough for the all the advice and information the team at the bungalow gave coupled with the help and genuine understanding and help with our particular issues.
