Mrs Salisbury’s Afternoon Tea
Local, lovely and simply delicious is Mrs Salisbury’s of Essex. Epitomising the Great British tearoom, they have locations in Maldon and Wickham Bishops, each host to its own character and charm. Mrs Salisbury’s is offering a special sit-in afternoon tea at their Maldon High Street and Wickham Bishops branches on Saturday 9th March and Sunday 10th March 2024.
The Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea starts with a raspberry bellini or glass of prosecco (non- alcoholic option available) and features a selection of finger sandwiches, fruit scones, sweet treats and savouries, all chosen by the chef. You’ll also enjoy unlimited tea from our extensive tea list or Americano coffee if you prefer.
A full bar and cocktail menu is of-course available as extra on the day!
There are two-hour slots available from 11:15am onwards. The Mother’s Day afternoon tea is also served on Saturday 9th March subject to availability.

Snow Drop Walks
When it comes to things to do in Essex, Halstead offers a wide range of wonderful activities this Mother’s Day. If you’re looking to get out and about in nature this Spring, then head over to Hedingham Castle. They’re offering a springtime version of their annual Snow Drop Walks, called Spring Bulb Walks. You can book now on their website!
From 11am-4pm, enjoy a beautiful stroll around the estate and seize the opportunity to see Spring in all its glory! In March, you can also expect to see a magnificent array of daffodils around the grounds and then towards April, the bluebells will begin their annual bloom. Your tickets include entry to the gardens and Castle, where you can spend as long as you require. The Keep Tearoom is open for seating indoors as well as takeaway, serving hot and cold drinks and light refreshments. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead throughout your time on the estate.
Saffron Grange Vineyard
You can find the popular Saffron Grange Vineyard nestled in the outskirts of the historic market town of Saffron Walden. Their vineyard tours run on select Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the growing season, from April to October, so this would be a belated Mother’s Day treat, but trust us, it’s worth the wait!
This tour is in depth: you’ll learn more about the unique soil conditions that make the Saffron region perfect for growing vines, the techniques, time and effort that go into growing grapes, and hear more about their expansion plans for the future. The vineyard tours take place in all weathers, so bring appropriate attire for those April showers!
Once you have enjoyed your tour of the vineyard, you will receive a briefing from one of the qualified team, who will walk you through a wine tasting and provide more information about the wines on offer. Here, you can take the time to relax as you soak up the panoramic views of the North-West Essex countryside!
Hungry? Saffron Grange also provide a scrumptious cheese and charcuterie boards to enjoy at the end of the tasting, with each item chosen to pair perfectly with the wine on offer. The charcuterie board includes a selection of delicious, award-winning and locally produced British charcuterie from Marsh Pig alongside crackers and a selection of companions. While the cheese board includes three carefully selected and matured British cheeses from renowned Cambridge Cheesemongers Rennet & Rind. The board includes crackers, fresh bread and a selection of cheese companions and will be served for you to enjoy at the end of your tasting.
Be sure to visit the café and shop to purchase wines by the bottle or case, as well as other locally sourced gifts and souvenirs.
It’s a truly wonderful afternoon. Tickets are limited and sell out fast, so make sure to book your place early, or purchase a voucher in plenty time.
