Christmas tree decorating ideas 2024
Looking for some Christmas tree decorating ideas 2024? Well, the Burnham Waters team is here to help! Last week, we celebrated the start of the festive season with the unveiling of our huge, 28ft Christmas tree on site. We gathered around the tree with all of our new residents, along with those who are soon to move in and many of their friends and family to enjoy some Christmas music, and a few festive treats.
As it started to get dark, the tree’s beautiful lights made for a stunning display and it was a real milestone event, as our community here really begins to take shape.
So…with our tree now all decorated, we thought we’d share a few of our Christmas tree decorating ideas and tips!
Already got your tree up and decorated but looking for some festive activities to enjoy with the family? Take a look at our blog post, where we have provided a round-up of Christmas things to do in Essex 2024.
Below, we take a look at what’s on trend this year – and how can you incorporate some of these trends when decorating your own Christmas tree.
Earth tones and natural elements
Well, it seems that the earth tones and natural elements, which we have seen within the world of interior design this year, are making an appearance in our Christmas decorations, too! Think dried orange slices and pinecones, wooden tree decorations and hessian bows. This can make for a very subtle, but beautiful tree – plus if you are out and about on a winter walk, this is the perfect time to forage for natural materials, which you can bring back and display on your tree, or around your home!
Illuminated trees
We all know how beautiful a Christmas tree can look, with its twinkling lights. Well, if you are opting for an artificial tree this year, then there are a growing selection of pre-lit trees now available. Not only can pre-lit trees look beautiful, but they also that the lights are dispersed evenly around the tree AND, they can save you the time often taken unravelling lengthy, tangled and unruly wires!
Tree collars
Wondering what on earth a tree collar is?? Well, they are a twist on the traditional tree skirt- a piece of material that lies flat on the floor around the bottom of the tree to catch falling needles (and to make it look pretty!).
Tree collars are more rigid in structure and can be used to hide the base of a tree (no ugly stands or a mass of wires on display!) giving your tree a tidier, more polished look.
Bows
A big trend for Christmas 2024 seems to be bows! A relatively simple and affordable Christmas tree decorating idea to participate in! Add bows of any colour, material, or size to your tree to bring it right up to date! Why not pick up some ribbon from the local craft shop, which coordinates with your existing décor, and then go to town tying bows around your tree. Quick tip: don't double knot – this way, when you come to take the tree down in January, they will be quick and easy to remove, and ready for you to re-use next Christmas!
Handmade decorations
This is a tradition, which we love – and one that in our opinion, will never grow old. Whether you are making an afternoon out of it with the grandchildren and helping them to create some new tree decorations that will bring back joyous festive memories for years to come, or you are an avid crafter and you are busy sewing, carving, sculpting or making your own creations, these can add a real personal and a special touch to your tree.
Mixed metals
Rather than choosing silver or gold and then sticking to it, lots of people are now mixing the metals on their tree – with some stunning effects. These metals can add an extra twinkle to your tree and in fact, they complement each other very well.
Scandinavian splendour
Looking for a classic, yet striking look for your Christmas tree this year? Then how about taking some inspiration from Scandinavia. Their simple yet stunning combination of silver, white, and red accents make for an incredibly festive, classic look. Why not use a red berry bouquet tree topper to crown your modern Christmas tree for a unique touch.
Dress your tree in the colour of the year!
What better way to stay on-trend than to deck your tree in the colour of the year? Put a holiday spin on pantone’s Peach Fuzz with ornaments and décor in champagne, taupe, coral, and terracotta.
Go classic
A trend that will never grow old is the classic tree! Why not give a nod to nostalgia with glass and glitter Christmas ornaments in traditional festive colours, shapes, and designs. Mix and match reds, greens, golds and silvers with personalised decorations and other old school favourites for a tree that brings you back to Christmases past.
