Lifestyle retirement villages: how to simplify your move

Moving into lifestyle retirement villages is an easy process, especially here at Burnham Waters. Our staff are always available to answer any questions surrounding the big day and are on hand to make the moving process as stress free as possible.

However, there are a few things we would recommend getting in place to ensure a smooth transition when the day arrives! Here are our top preparation tips to help you simplify you move to new retirement homes!

 

Declutter before you pack

 

We would strongly suggest that you declutter and clear out before you pack up your belongings for the move. You’ll save on packaging and space, plus you won’t be bringing unnecessary bits and bobs into your new home that you’ll only have to clear out at a later date! By doing this now, you’ll save yourself time, effort, space and money – win win! 

If you find it hard to let go of household items, selling things or donating to charity is a great way to ensure your items get a second life. It’s eco-friendly and encourages a more sustainable way of living. Can’t get to a charity shop? Don’t worry! Anglo Doorstop Collections will donate on your behalf for free! Create a schedule

 

Preparing a visual timeline is a great way to ensure you are on track with the to-do list before the move. This will ensure you don’t forget anything vital before leaving your previous property for good. This of-course will include jobs like the cleaning and packing but could also include things like notification of your change of address. This includes your doctors or pharmacy, energy providers, your bank, the DVLA, neighbours and friends etc. Moving to a new house means there is a lot of personal admin involved. Start planning as soon as possible to get the bulk of it covered in the weeks leading up to the moving date!

So, it may be worth switching your current service providers upon arrival, so you can benefit from everything on-site. Organise your courier

 

As a priority, we’d suggest organising your courier, or removal company as soon as you know your moving date. A removal company can really help to streamline your moving process. It’ll save you effort and potentially, and a fair bit in expenses. With the right number of vans, a specialist company will be able to move everything in one journey. Moving your belongings personally may include multiple car journeys, car wear and tear, petrol expenses, not to mention potential damage to items. Moving to a new house can be quite stressful as it is, so we’d suggest getting the professionals in to help alleviate some of the pressure (and manual labour) on moving day. 

It’s important that your chosen service is reliable and able to shift the items accounted for. Do your research and don’t be afraid to give them a call, ask questions and get a quote, after all your belongings are some of the most important things in your life.
